Marketing a yacht charter in Panama

A Panama charter finds guests through five channels: Google search and maps, online travel platforms such as Viator, GetYourGuide and Airbnb, hotel concierges in Panama City, cruise passengers at Amador and Colón, and repeat and referral guests. List in English and Spanish, collect reviews, and do not advertise until the ATP, AMP and insurance paperwork is complete.

Licensed first, marketed second

Do not advertise trips you cannot legally run. The platforms check, guests increasingly ask, and an advert is evidence of commercial activity if the AMP or ATP comes asking.

  • Viator. Its August 2026 supplier agreement makes valid public liability insurance mandatory, sets coverage minimums by activity and destination, and freezes new sales if the documents lapse.
  • GetYourGuide. Its supplier pages say it works with registered, legally compliant operators and asks for a company registration number, tax ID and bank details before paying out.
  • Guests. A careful guest will ask for the ATP registration, the AMP certificate and its passenger capacity, and the captain's licence. Have them ready to show.

The paperwork chain is in how to start a boat charter business in Panama.

Google Business Profile and your own site

Most guests search "yacht charter Panama", "boat tour Panama City" or "alquiler de yate Panamá" and look at the map results first. A Google Business Profile is free and is often the first thing they see.

  • Use your registered business name and a real address or service area. Name the pier: Flamenco Marina or La Playita on the Amador causeway.
  • Choose accurate categories, list the trips with durations, and keep hours and phone current.
  • Post real photos of your boat, crew and routes, not stock images.
  • Answer questions and reviews in the language they were written in.

Your own website is where you control prices, terms and the booking flow without a commission. Publish the cancellation policy, what is included, whether ITBMS is in the price, and where to board.

Platforms bring foreign guests who would never find you otherwise, at the price of a commission and their cancellation rules. Price so that a platform booking still covers your costs; see charter costs and pricing. The US view is in charter third-party platforms.

Hotel concierges and cruise passengers

Hotels. Concierges and tour desks at Panama City hotels are a steady channel for bay cruises, Taboga and Las Perlas. Bring them a one-page sheet with trips, prices, inclusions, pickup point and your licences. Agree any commission in writing and invoice it properly. Make it easy: one phone or WhatsApp number that answers, in English and Spanish.

Cruise ships. The season runs from October to April, La Estrella reported in 2025, with ships at Amador on the Pacific side and Colón 2000 on the Caribbean. La Prensa reported that the ATP expected 55 calls at Amador and about 137 at Colón 2000 in the 2024–25 season, and that most passengers on the first Amador call left on organised tours by bus. Cruise passengers have fixed hours ashore, so offer short trips that return well before the ship's all-aboard time, and expect to work through local tour agencies.

Bilingual listings and reviews

Your guests are foreign tourists, expats and Panamanians. Write every listing in English and Spanish, with the same prices and terms, rather than a machine translation. Use the words locals search for: paseo en lancha, alquiler de yate, tour a Taboga.

Reviews decide most bookings. Ask every happy group the same day, on the platform they booked through or on Google. Reply to criticism calmly and say what you changed. Never write or buy reviews.

Repeat guests and referrals cost nothing. Keep a list of past guests who agreed to hear from you (see the consent rules in passenger records), and send residents a note before the calm-water months or the whale season.

Say what is true

  • Advertise the boat you will actually send, at its certified capacity, not a bigger one.
  • Say what is included and whether the price includes ITBMS.
  • Do not promise whales, calm water or a fixed itinerary the weather may not allow.
  • Show your weather and cancellation policy where guests book; see cancellation and weather policies.

Your practical starting checklist

  1. Finish the ATP, AMP and insurance paperwork before you publish any advert.
  2. Set up a Google Business Profile naming your pier and listing each trip.
  3. Publish your own bilingual site with prices, inclusions, ITBMS and the cancellation policy.
  4. List on one or two platforms, with prices that survive the commission.
  5. Visit hotel concierges with a one-page sheet and your licences.
  6. Ask every group for a review the same day.
