Boat ownership cost calculator (Panama)

Work out the yearly and monthly cost of owning a boat in Panama: marina, insurance, upkeep, fuel, crew with CSS and décimo, AMP fees and a reserve.

Enter your own quotes in US dollars. The calculator adds Panama's crew employment costs, employer CSS and the décimo tercer mes, to your berth, insurance, upkeep, fuel and AMP fees, and gives a yearly and monthly budget.

Your result

Fill in the fields, then calculate.

What the calculation means

Annual budget = 12 × (marina + bottom cleaning + fuel + crew wages) + insurance + maintenance + AMP fees + reserve + employer CSS + décimo. Employer CSS = 12 × monthly wages × the CSS rate. Décimo tercer mes = one twelfth of a year's wages, which is one month's pay. The monthly figure is the annual total divided by 12; your payments will be lumpier than that.

The CSS field starts at 13.25%, the employer rate under Ley 462 of 2025 until 28 February 2027, as reported by TVN from the CSS announcement. The same law raises it to 14.25% from March 2027 and 15.25% from March 2029, so change the field for later years. The calculator does not add CSS on the décimo, which has its own contribution rules, or other employer charges such as vacation pay and risk insurance. Ask a Panamanian accountant to cost your crew properly.

The AMP does not publish a single schedule of yacht fees we could open, so enter what the AMP or your agent quotes. The calculator leaves out the purchase price, import duty and ITBMS, loan payments and depreciation. For what each line costs in practice see boat ownership costs in Panama, and keep your figures in the ownership cost worksheet.
